27.8 Word order in relative clauses

The word order is completely different in relative clauses as is to be shown in the following table.

The most distinct difference is in the position of the verb. In a relative clause the conjugated verb is always at the end.

* If there is a modal verb as well as an auxiliary the auxiliary gets the first position, the modal verb the last.

Der Mann, dem ich es   freundlicherweise         gegeben habe, ist tot.
Die Frau, die       heute mit dem Fahrrad in die Schule         gefahren ist, ist Andrea.
