31.5.4 Elative

In contrary to the superlative the elative is absolute or in other words: It does not compare one thing or person with a group of others. The personal opinion of the author is that there is no grammatical sense in making this distinction, because it is just one way to express the high quality of a person or a thing.

In German language there are loads of possibilities to express the high quality of things and persons.

Example  
Das ist sehr gut.
= This is very good.
Das ist mir höchst willkommen.
= This is most welcome.
Das ist äußerst merkwürdig.
= This is extremely weird.
