29.3.4 Doppelt, dreifach, vierfach


Doppelt, dreifach, vierfach  
doppelt / zwei Mal so viel = double / twice as much
dreifach / drei Mal so viel = triple / three times as much
vierfach / vier Mal so viel = quatruple / four times as much
fünffach / fünf Mal so viel = five times as much
sechsfach / sechs Mal so viel = six times as much

Let's have a look at some examples  
Dieses Jahr hat es zweimal so viel geregnet wie letztes Jahr.
= This year it rained twice as much as last year.
Dieses Jahr hat es doppelt so viel geregnet wie letztes Jahr.
= This year it rained double the quantity as last year.
Er hat dreimal so viel gegessen wie sie.
= He ate three times as much as she did.
Er hat das Dreifache von dem gegessen, was sie gegessen hat.
= He ate the triple fold of what she ate.
Die Kartoffeln sind dieses Jahr fünfmal so teuer wie letztes Jahr.
= Potatoes are five times as expensive as last year.
