Adverbs can be classified by their function in local
adverbs, adverbs of time, modal adverbs, pronominal
adverbs and adverbs
that have the function of a conjunction. In total
there are about a hundred adverbs in German (Note, that
we only call the words that are invariable adverbs.
If we count also the adjectives that can be used as
adverbs, there would be thousands of them). In the following
chapters we would like to present the most important
ones. Further it is important to understand the different
types of adverbs, because the position of the adverb
within the phrase changes according to its type, as
you'll see.
