Reported speech without the conjunction dass

In German - as well as in English - the conjunction before the subordinate phrase can be used but can also be omitted.

Er sagt, dass er keine Lust habe. = He says that he does not feel like it.

One can also say:

Er sagt, er habe keine Lust. = He says he does not feel like it.

As we have discussed already in the chapter about some conjunctions, the position of the verb changes when the conjunction dass appears in a sentence.
