17.0 Reflexive pronouns

Reflexive pronouns are those pronouns that indicate that the object of the verb in the phrase is the subject of the phrase. In English these pronouns are myself, yourself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves. In German we can distinguish two different situations. The first possibility is that the phrase has a direct object, then the reflexive pronouns correspond to the personal pronouns in Dative. If there is no direct object, the reflexive pronouns correspond to the personal pronouns in Accusative. Only in third person singular and plural this rule does not apply, then the reflexive pronoun is sich.
