The past perfect is the time that describes something in the past that had happened before something else happened. It is used in most of the European languages quite seldom. Anyway the easy part is that use is identical with the use of the English past perfect (He had gone home before I arrived.) And the formation is not too difficult either after we've been through the present perfect.
