'Ja, das fühlt man!' sagte der Wassereimer und machte vor Freude einen kleinen Sprung, so daß es auf dem Fußboden klatschte. Der Topf fuhr zu erzählen fort, und das Ende war ebensogut wie der Anfang. Alle Teller klapperten vor Freude, und der Haarbesen zog grüne Petersilie aus dem Sandloche und bekränzte den Topf, denn er wußte, daß es die andern ärgern werde. 'Bekränze ich ihn heute', dachte er, 'so bekränzt er mich morgen.' 'Nun will ich tanzen!' sagte die Feuerzange und tanzte. Ja, Gott bewahre uns, wie konnte sie das eine Bein in die Höhe strecken! Der alte Stuhlbezug dort im Winkel platzte, als er es sah. 'Werde ich nun auch bekränzt?' fragte die Feuerzange, und das wurde sie. 'Das ist das gemeine Volk!' dachten die Streichhölzer. Nun sollte die Teemaschine singen, aber sie sagte, sie sei erkältet, sie könne nicht, wenn sie nicht koche; doch das war bloß Vornehmtuerei; sie wollte nicht singen, wenn sie nicht drinnen bei der Herrschaft auf dem Tische stand.
